5Tested a variety of exercise machines & ALL the Total Gyms ... not just for "body builders"
By Mad Max
I'm a pretty unlikely reviewer for exercise equipment. I'm an outdoor enthusiast and enjoy a variety of spots with my family (biking, hiking, skiing, etc) but have zero interest in home exercise equipment, body building, etc.But about 10 years ago accidentally stumbled upon a Total Gym (early model - 1000 maybe?) at a damaged freight auction, of all places. I saw a pallet stacked about 5 feet high with all sorts of metal pieces, some mangled pretty bad. In the middle of the mangled mess I saw the Bowflex logo, got excited, and bought the pallet for $5.When I got it to my garage, I was able to piece together 3 complete machines - a Bowflex, a Total Gym, and a Gazelle. (The rest was bent or incomplete). So I had a blast testing these three machines (probably $2,000 of equipment I got for $5!). The Bowflex seemed like a great strength training/muscle building machine, but took up way too much room and I sold it pretty quickly. The Gazelle was a load of fun - used it for about 4 years. Provided a nice gentle workout. And it was light, folded up nice, but the handles are curved so it wouldn't fit under a bed or in the closet. I decided to sell it when I moved, but probably would have kept it if I had the space. The machine that made the cut was the Total Gym. It seemed to do the job of both the Gazelle & the Bowflex - it's advertised for strength training, but actually I primarily use it for aerobic. My favorite aerobic exercise is the row machine function (which obviously also works the arms & chest), but there are a variety of other aerobic exercises as well. This model is pretty light (maybe it's 54 pounds like the box says, but it seems lighter to me), and will fold up and store in the closet or under most beds. If your bed is too short (like my previous bed) invest $10 in some Bed Risers/Lifts, and it will definitely fit. It stores away great, has such a broad variety of exercises, & is so easy to use, it wins hands-down in my book in terms of most convenient exercise machines. My experience with the Total Gym doesn't stop there. Over the years I've kept my eyes open for Total Gyms - at church sales, garage sales, etc. I even discovered that my local Goodwill Thrift Store refuses to sell any exercise equipment, so they give them away free on the curb whenever one is donated. Whenever I saw a different model, I picked it up and gave it as a gift to family members, or sold it. I've tried just about every model - the 1000, 1100, 1500, 2000, an off-brand called Fitness Quest, and even the top-of-the-line Total Gym XLS.If you're shopping for a Total Gym, here's how they compare:The off-brands I tested (Fitness Quest, Bayou, even a K-Mart branded machine), did not compare at all to the Total Gym. The parts were plastic (not metal) and tended to break. The back board was smaller and wasn't comfortable. Maybe these off-brands have gotten better in recent years, but I can't recommend any of them.In terms of the Total Gym, all of them performed well. The differences between the 1100 and the more expensive models are: The back board is wider and more padded, they handle extra weight, and they come with extras/amenities for different exercises. So I ended up giving away or selling the more expensive models (XLS, 2000, 1500) and kept this one! I would recommend the more expensive units if you are a body builder and want to add a greater variety of exercises (the leg builder & squat tools are nice on the XLS), if you are over 250 or 300 pounds (check the weight limit on the box), if you need a wider or more padded back board (i.e., if you are in physical therapy), or if you like all the fancy gadgets. For me, the 1100 has plenty to keep both my wife & myself busy. One other thing - most people who buy exercise equipment end up using it 3 times before it ends up a clothing rack or a dust collector in the garage. The primary reasons for this are (a) building a new routine, and (b) convenience - and that's why the portability of this unit helps. However, if you're undecided about what type of machine to get, I suggest the less expensive 1100 ... and if you use it every day and eventually need more, sell it and get the larger unit. In my experience, the price point for a new or like-new 1100 (on Amazon, auction sites, local ads, etc) should be between $150-200 delivered. Hope this helps!

4Good buy for beginners
By Erik Manning
Yes, there are a few downsides to this system. It can take up a bit of floorspace, and it is a bit pricey. But... I had this system a few years ago and loved it. I had to sell it when I moved into a tiny apartment and needed all the space I could get. I recently repurchased the item again and don't regret it at all. There are so many exercises you can perform with this unit, and after two and a half weeks I'm already seeing results. This is a great product for beginners or for those who want an inexpensive home gym.

4Great Value, must understand limitations
By Tate
The Total Gym 1100 is a great value given its low price combined with the number of exercise you can perform. I rated it 4 starts, but 3.5 would be more accurate. Buying the more expensive models does not greatly increase what you can do; it just improves the quality and throws in a few accessories. You can get a pretty good upper body workout on this machine, but this in not the machine if you want to do a lot of work on your legs or abs. The construction and components are not high quality, but that should be expected when buying the base line model. Nothing has broken yet, but some of the padding is showing major signs of wear after only a few months. This is a great item to if you want a good (not great) workout at a very low price, just don't expect it to do everything.Pros:- Can perform most of the same exercise as more expensive models- Fairly easy to move and store away- Good upper body workout, especially shoulders- Great Value- Amazon Shipping was greatCons:- Not for developing muscle mass, nor is it great for lower body or core- Quality of machine/components is not very good (this should be expected for the price)

5Jewish Star of David Charm (Accent on Gold Jewelry)
By A Customer
I was very satisfied with the charm I purchased from this company. I losta Star of David charm that I had for almost twenty years, the other day, and was a bit sad, because it held a special memory of my mother, who passed away almost three years ago. I did not want to pay alot of money for another. I looked at a few jewelry stores, and was not successful until I found this company who carried a similar charm. The only difference was that the charm I lost had a bell. I was so satisfied, I even called the company to thank them. There are not too many stores who take pride in, let alone value their work. The product is excellent for the price. Thank you so much. The shipping and handling of the product was satisfactory as well. If you have problems with a product, just call this company, or any other first to try to work it out before you make a decision. Usually, there is always a logical explanation for most situations: unless of course the company is apathetic to you, then you know to discontinue business with them. Grace and Peace.

I was very pleased with the quick response I received from this company. I received the merchandise in a timely manner & they kept me informed for each step of the shipping process. The merchandise itself was of good quality and I was very pleased with how nice it was. This was a gift for a friend and I was happy to present it.

5The keyboard I always wanted
By Wacharaboy
I'm an amateur musician, and I always wanted a big keyboard, something close enough to a piano, but the big keyboards were always so expensive. In top of that, they always come with lots of knobs and features that I never wanted to learn or try. I just wanted a piano-like keyboard to play. When I saw this keyboard for first time, I loved its 'minimalistic' style: no knobs, no screens, no buttons. Just the 88 keys and the minimum necessary controllers (3 buttons, 2 wheels and 1 slider), all in a beautiful and solid silver case. When I checked its price, I suspected maybe its quality was poor, but I had good references for the M-audio brand. So I decided to give it a chance and I'm still very proud of my purchase: just plugged it into the usb port of my PC and it was inmediately recognized. I was using FL Studio, but right now I'm trying Sonar and it works flawlessly. The keys offer some resistance to pressure, so it almost feel like piano keys.If you're interested on this keyboard, I strongly recommend it. But if you don't to know that much of keyboards (and you don't want to, anyway), you have to know this keyboard is not a exactly a toy, nor is the kind that comes with lots of sounds and rythms. It is a controller, which means you have to use some kind of software or synth device for it to produce any sound. If you know exactly what you're buying, I don't think you will ever regret of buying this keyboard. It's great!

5Great with Garage Band
By Karl
Great to have a velocity sensitive keyboard controller with full 88 keys at this price! I purchased based on the other reviews here which helped me understand what to expect. The keyboard is completely plug and play with OS X and works well with Garage Band. The velocity sensitivity is not the greatest. Even adjusting the sensitivity in Garage Band preferences, I cannot be anywhere near as expressive in my dynamic range as I can be on a real piano. But, I discovered that some aspect of this is in the digital instrument that the keyboard is controlling, and not the keyboard itself.I purchased the GarageBand Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack after using the keyboard for a couple of days. Apple Garageband Jam Pack: Symphony Orchestra The Steinway grand in this Jam Pack not only sounds better, but has better sensitivity response than the standard piano. I still lack as much dynamic range as I would have on a piano - some notes not playing and others not being loud enough if I use the same relative force. But, I'm happy with the value for the price, and with all of the other fun stuff one can do in Garage Band.I purchased the M-Audio sustain pedal at the same time as the keyboard M-Audio SP-2 US65010 Sustain Pedal Piano Style Sustain Pedal for Keyboards and recommend that for anyone for whom simulating a piano is a prime consideration. Here, too, the standard Garage Band piano vs the Jam Pack Steinway perform differently, the sustain sounding more like a real instrument with the Jam Pack Steinway. (But, it does only sustain the depressed keys with Garage Band - it does not result in induced harmonics from the other released strings, lest I get anyone too excited. Again - this keyboard is merely a controller. With other software, other results are possible.)Re: the posts about lead. See the other posts - there is no more lead in this than any other electronic component.Re: USB socket on left and short cord. This keyboard can be plugged into a USB hub without problem - I'm using one of the plugs on my Apple keyboard - but you can also use a USB extension cable (or replace the included cable with a longer one) without problem, as this is a low data rate device. So, not a big deal.

5Wow !
By Eddie Landsberg
A full and affordable lightweight 88 key MIDI controller... what more could one ask for...How about semi-weighted key ??? Done deal !Here's the catch - - mutch to my delight, the action is almost exactly like that of a Hammond Organ - - my main organ and coincidentally I use it with the Native B4.... The feel is so B-3 like I actually prefer the action to any of the other Hammond Clones I owned.Of course, most people aren't going to be buying it for that purpose, but I can tell you... the feel is really nice...If you grew up in the era the affordable MIDI keybaords = junk era, this little baby will change your mind.Good enough for a pro... affordable enough for the serious student who needs all 88 keys.My only issue (and its a minor one) is that the USB connection is on the far left hand of the keyboard... logical if you're going to be setting it up in front of the computer... but I don't think I Macintosh G5 and 88 key controller are going to fit on most desks... as a result I got a keyboard stand to set it up to my left, however, since the connection is where it is the cable doesn't reach. Nevertheless, not the end of the world... All in all this is one fine blessing from the Gods of Computer Music !

5set it awesome and looks very nice
By V. Furtado
I am very pleased with the purchase of these 2 comfortable chairs. I had previously bought the table for my very small kitchen area and now purchased the chairs. The set is made very well and looks great. The table is brown textured like a leather look with bronze legs. The chairs a brown faux leather seat which is soft and comfortable. The back of chairs are bronze iron with a faux wood top rim. You have to assemble all but it was very easy and its sturdy. The overall order of this item shipped and delivery was satisfactory.

3Loved the Tone the Pedal Broke after three sessions
By R. Boucher
The tones out of this unit are awesome... But the Wah pedal broke on mine after three jam sessionsnot much quality there. I went on the Line 6 website and it would appear this is a known issue by line 6. I returned mine and went back to my old Digitech set up for now.

5One of the best Multi effects system's ever!!!
By Christian M. Zollman
I am a semi pro guitarists, now a lot of people do not trust variable electronic effects systems and think the traditional route is best, for most systems that is correct but not Line 6 equipment. You can be a novice and use their stuff, an expert has even more goodies to look forward to like USB connectivity and on the fly tone adjustment, not to mention looking at about half the cost when compared to the traditional equipment. Here is my disclaimer, this is not a replacement for the traditional route just an early augmentation and an all around compact, quality, and just plain easy to use system to get you playing with the best in no time. All in all the Pod XT Live is one of the best all around tool a guitarist could ask for!!!!

2All round bad experience.
By Christopher Olson
I bought this effects board thinking "hey this is great. I can get all the effects in one place". The problems just got worse the more i used it. At first i noticed that it made a lot of feedback through my amp and a low thumping noise whenever i palm muted or played low range chords. I took it back to Guitar center and they said "oh it must be a faulty one" and they exchanged it for another. When i hooked the new one up I had the same problem. Tried it on several amp setups (all of which work great with any other effect pedals or guitars. I also thought it might be my guitar, so i tried other guitars with the same problem. I did some research online and didnt find much, just a few forum posts with people with the same issue and just being told that it must be their guitar or amp setup. I decided to take it to a friend of a friend who builds guitar sand repairs guitars and amps. He worked with it for a week and it still had the same issue. The only solution I could find for the problem was using an eq on my effects that cut lows....needless to say that doesnt sound the greatest. Also, after about a month of using the podxt live with very careful use, (i take very good care of my music equipment), I noticed the wah pedal starting to make a horrible metal grinding sound and not working as it was supposed to. once again looked on the forums for podxt and found that its a known issue with the podxt live.To summarize, i am not an anti Line 6 guy or anything, i do like some of their amps. However, this pedal board gave me nothing but headaches. The only effects i could seem to use (including factory loaded ones and ones i downloaded from line 6 themselves) without feedback and noise issues were very tinny and sounded highly processed. I couldn't see recomending this pedal board. It wouldnt be too much more costly to just buy the 3 or 4 pedals you use regularly and create your own pedal board.

5Great set if you are an all-digital guru
By GenXmom
A new adopter of this 55-inch set, I have a few caveats for those who are thinking of plunking down the dough. First, if you are not planning on going all-out digital with your television broadcasts, then forget buying this unit. Any non-digital/non-high-definition source will look totally grainy and pixilated on the screen. This is not the fault of the TV or of the manufacturer, SONY. Basically this type of TV, like all HDTVs, is meant for digital television viewing. Watching normal TV on this set is hard on my eyes because the image is sometimes fuzzy and sometimes pixilated, and I can see some artifacts and ghosting. However, if you can get digital cable or HD satellite (DirecTV, Dish, Voom) then you're good to go. Mind you -- these companies also provide an antenna for "off-air" viewing, which means to get local HD television broadcasts, you must use an antenna (pointing in the right direction of course) to receive the signal, but this is free. In fact, if you want to skip digital cable or satellite, then you can buy an antenna yourself and hook it up to this unit, which has an integrated HD TV (DTV) tuner. In a major metro area like San Francisco, we can get the signal easily -- we are within 3.5 miles of a major broadcast tower. As for viewing DVDs, this model really shines and happens to be a perfect compromise between the 50" and 60". I used two DVDs to test the picture when the unit arrived: Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and the 2004 edition of The Empire Strikes Back. I used Two Towers to test action sequences, shadows, and contrast. The unit performed brilliantly. I used Empire Strikes Back to test black levels. Brilliant. I had heard that black levels were problematic in LCDs, especially the previous version of this unit class, but I closely watched Darth Vader and all the space scenes to detect any flaws but there were NONE. I only got the truest of black; nothing appeared dark grey when it was supposed to be black, and the shadows were perfect, especially when watching Luke's confrontation with Vader in the carbon-freezing room. Darth Vader's shiny and matte black uniform looked exactly as it should, so I found no flaws with the blacks on this unit. In fact, both DVDs were awesome to watch, and I did sit through both to look for any kind of visual distraction. One last note about such a large screen. If you don't have ample room between your sofa and the screen, forget about getting such a large screen TV. You need ample room because watching TV close to one of these screens hurts your eyes. I sit anywhere from 7-9 feet back, and sometimes I still want to move back a little.I recommend this unit without hesitation to anyone who is going all digital and who is willing to pay for the necessary evils of an all-digital experience. If you can't, then I don't recommend any HDTV because you're only going to see worse-than-normal-TV images on-screen.

4After 4 weeks and many DVDs and Comcast HDTV
By Kurt Hartsig
Now that we've had this Sony 55" LCD in the house and used a great deal, I have a few comments for potential buyers. This is my personal setup-Comcast HD Digital Cable feedDigital CableCardSony DVD with progressive scan toggled onComponent Video from DVD to HDTVSurround Sound (5.1) from DVD player8-12 feet from HDTV to seating areaLow lighting in room; little to no natual lightingOverall, I am very happy with this purchase. My family, the kids and friends, really love it! Family members are so impressed with the DVD & HDTV picture quality that it's fun to hear their reaction. The HDTV from Comcast is 1080i and very good. Some channels are better then others, so set your expectations for quality on what is broadcasted from each channel. The best quality is coming from DiscoveryHD and INHD, INHD2 for general topics. ESPN-HD is also great. Some local HD channels are mixed and quality is on/off depending upon the technology in the camera used.I also have a SONY DVD Progressive Scan/5.1 surround sound player. DVD Component Video output to either of the two Sony HDTV Component Video-In provides the better picture. Don't go cheap on the Component Video cables.Combined with the surround sound audio, progressive scan video to this Sony HDTV provides results that are just wonderful and entertaining. It's amazing for family and friends that have not seen or heard DVD/HDTV combo yet.We just finished watching Lord of the Rings, Extended versions for all three movies - one each weekend. The picture quality is so very clear; action sequences are great but my most enjoyable seens are the landscapes in Return of the King. You will find yourself "looking around the HDTV", focusing on areas of the picture and noticing things never before seen or observed. The surround sound DVD player is a major component of enjoyment.Picture quality is very sharp with recent animated DVD videos from Toy Story, Shrek, Incredibles, and others. We just love it.ROOM TO IMPROVE Areas:The remote is less then friendly and logical. Buttons are too small, most used functions are spread around the unit. Lighting in dark rooms isn't there. Getting the remote pointed DIRECTLY at the HDTV is annoying. Other cautions - there is a button or more to switch between Cable and Antenna inputs!! That caused me pain solving that mystery out. If Sony could redesign the remote and keep it compatable, I'll be one of the first to buy it.The cold power-on and warm-up time seems long. It may take 15 seconds or more to get the bright, clear picture so be patient. At times, the picture and sound get off queue by maybe a second. This may not be the HDTV, but I've noticed it more now then with the old CRT TV set. When using a Sony Memory Stick for pictures, the HDTV provided music is great, except when it repeats itself over and over in 15-20 second segments. Too bad Sony didn't include more lengthy music segments. Another item, why is Sony only accepting their own "picture card" and not other standards such as Compact Flash, SD Cards, etc.

2CAVEAT EMPTOR : Know what you're getting yourself into.
By M. Thomas
First let me say that the sound quality and the picture quality are above average for televisions made at this time. But it would be irresponsible for someone to sell you this television with telling you about the known issues associated with this model. First and foremost, the optical block will not last very long. This is the main image creating device for this model. To replace and/or fix the model will cost upwards of a thousand dollars. Also, the bulbs only last a few years if you're lucky, and those run around 150-250 a piece, depending on whether you buy factor or after-market parts, and if there is service involved.Do a google search about the 'optical block' and 'Sony Grand WEGA' or 'kdf-55wf655' for yourself before buying this one. It's a shame because when it does work, it really has a beautiful picture.

5Fantastic way to learn to play the drums
By J. Gorny
I bought this item after testing it out for a few minutes at a local store, and found that it is much more versatiel that it may first appear. Pads are responsive, but not too responsive - sensitivity is adjustable. I recommend trying to find the kit with the drum stand included - it makes it very easy to have a setup at home.Drum sounds are great, comparable to more MIDI modules that would otherwise come separately, or if you want to you could run the MIDI through the wavetable on the soundcard of your computer (or run virtual samplers or whatever off of it - everything comes across standard channel 10 (drum channel) but you can also program is for other channels or even separate pads by channel. You may read complaints about the hat being hard to use... I found that if you hold the sticks properly this becomes less of an issue - the set is designed to trim back double-hits and so if you are sloppy, you will not get the clean hat sounds you are looking for - so yes, it works, clean up your playing! :)The rubber pads also have a very similar feel to rubber practice pads used by teachers and students all over... so the feel of the drum hits is excellent. As I have gotten better and more confident I find I am able to bash away at the set and it's responsive nature is excellent. However I have two recommendations -1. Get headphones - you can practice anytime!2. Get a carpet - this is an old trick to keep gear in place while you play, but it really works for this kit. The trigger pedals are plastic and light and so although they have rubber feet, they have the tendency to bounce if you are a good stomper! So you hear the trigger of your stomp but then the trigger when the pedal hits the floor! On hardwood floor this happens easily. So get yourself a small carpet or else attach some sort of plate to the bottom of the pedals so they won't slip...Word has it this kit can use the fancier Yamaha pro kick and hat pedals also, so if you really want to get serious about it, well there you go.I tried taking lessons on a conventional drum kit and found that it made too much noise and that I wouldn't practice because I hated having people hear how bad I was... This kit eliminates that problem, and you can focus more on the essentials of separating your limbs and on timing... It includes an onboard metronome also, and the black circle is a dialing control that can be used to select kits, sounds, songs, and metronome speed...Alternative in pad mode, you just hit the pad you want to change and it cycles through the sounds and roll patterns until you find one you like. I find myself dialing back and forth playing around with different sounds. Also, there are voices with multiple patch triggers based on velocity - meaning that one those voices, not only will the sound be louder as you hit harder, but the sound will changed from a more subdued snare sample to a rimshot or a louder snare sample as well as get louder.Final rec, if the sounds themselves don't do it for you, I have found two things help expand the possibilities of this kit:1. a POD or Roland Cube15 or another modeling amplifier - like having a drum mic mixer in your home...2. an actual mixer... I suggest one of the home varieties - I personally run it through a Peavy RQ100 along with my stereo and play along - 30 hour jam sessions and you can play along great. My brother just bought the small Behringer home mixer and really likes it as well, although it is geared more towards being portable with the Peavey RQ100 has inputs that are computer friendly...Well that's about it - it's a great starter kit for someone who has always wanted to try drums - that was me 2 months ago, and now I am actually doing it thanks to this machine.

5Versatile percussion
By Jesus C. Alba
This drum is the instrument of choice to begin in the professional percussion. If you are an appassionate of real drums, you will miss the feel of a traditional drum (the sound of the perimeter of the snare, the multiple variations in the sound of the ride cymbal, the subtleness of opening and closing the hi-hat -though this drum system is sensible enough to allow some basic opening/closing playing-). If you are not, you'll get high quality drum sounds (hard to distinguish from real ones), together with a nice atmosphere (due to the DSP effects that the DD55 includes). Moreover, if you turn the hand-percussion mode on, you will enjoy some basic (yet high quality again) percussion instruments. All the pads and the bass drum pedal provide fine sensitivity, so you will usually not need to strike them hard - simply give gentle touchs and enjoyThe MIDI implementation is also very good, so you can record your performances or use the DD55 as a external sound module. In sum, it's probably the best choice in its price range.

5An Exceptional Value
By Kurt H.
No, It's not as good or as realistic as a real set and not as good a digital drum set as a Roland V Drum setup, but for what it is, it's excellent. As a beginning recreational drummer, this was a great buy since it allows me to get acquainted with playing without taking up tons of room, being loud to play and cumbersome to transport.I wish such an instrument was available when I was in college in Minnesota when other band members and I had to help our drummer move his set and cymbals across campus to and from evening practice in the freezing Winter. Although this digital drum pad would never completely replicate a real set for practice / jam sessions, it would definitely get the job done by plugging into the sound system via a direct-input box. Also this DD-55 would have been much smaller and lighter to transport and we wouln't have wasted 20 minutes per practice for set up / take down time.If you're interested in learning drums without buying a full-blown set that takes up lots of space, can't be played with headphones, requires additional sound insulation and costs more it would be a well-placed purchase. It would also be a good buy if you already have a set and want to practice at night and/or need to move your gear frequently to and from practice and jam sessions. Now, if anyone from Yamaha Products is reading here are my recommendations for changes / enhancements in new models:- It would be great to be able to store drum kits, songs and settings remotely via a USB device. DD-55 drum kits and settings are lost when the unit looses power.- 7 levels of drum pad sensitivity are good, but 12 would be much, much better -- particularly for the cymbals.- The DD-55 unit has one 1/4" stereo output. It would be great if the unit also had two mono 1/4" outputs and/or two RCA outputs.- Two more small drum pads would be great.- The built-in DD-55 speakers are very wimpy and can be dispensed with. The sounds come across much better through headphones or an Amplifier / PA setup.- A more sturdy fiberglass casing would make the unit much more road-worthy.- The size of the unit is a bit irregular and hard to fit in many gig bags. It would be great if soft-padded or hard-shell case bags are available.Although these changes may add between $50 and $100 per unit, such enhancements would make the unit a more professional grade, easily transportable practice unit.

5creed
By jenna
Used to a big fan of aqua di gio but since it seems to be so common, decided to give this cologne a try. My boyfriend has a collection of about thirty different colognes and this is by far our favorite. Seems expensive for such a small bottle but about half a spray and the scent is distinct all day. The smell did not even fade off his clothes after sitttng in the dirty pile until it was washed out. Very clean masculine scent, also is choise of 50 cent and was shown on Oprah. Highly recommended..

5Great Guitar Case for the price

I hate trying to carry a guitar around without a case. They get banged up and scratched. I needed one for the Ovation Guitar I purchased on Amazon. This case fits the guitar perfectly and was a good price. It is molded plastic and very durable.
