5WOW!
By J. Chamberlin
I've been eyeing the Cold Steel Recon Knife for close to 6 or 7 years (back when it cost under $50). The other day I decided to treat myself, so broke down and bought my dream knife. The first thing you notice is its size. This knife is huge, almost to the point where it's comically large. My other knife, Benchmade Bali-song Elishewitz Striker, is a much more approachable knife (small in size, great grip, easy to hide and handle). With the Recon your option for hiding is limited. I usually put my knife in the small of the back area, but with this knife that will be problematic. The second thing that comes to mind is the grip. It's tough as nails, and resembles a metal file more so than a knife handle. Seriously, you could sharpen other knives with the Recon's handle or use it to scale fish. That said, it may be too unwielding as an everyday knife, both in its size and grip.Besides that the blade's finish looks nice, but will no doubt show its wear soon enough. Opening and closing this knife is pretty easy.I am giving it five stars, because it has been my dream knife for a while and now that I have it, I am satisfied. I'm sure there will be many nights of me touching my knife, and my knife touching me. I recommend you do the same, but be careful, the Recon is sharp!

5combat effective
By B. Sandoval
The lockback feature is very secure and unique. It's also easy to fold. The belt clip works great but you need a special tool to switch it to the other side. As for the blade, everything is good. Sharpness on both plain and serrated edge are both exceptional. The durability is above and beyond it's capability. I have thrown it on cardboard boxes, roll of bubble wraps, wood, and sandbags (Note: Do not try it, it's not a throwing knife nor is balanced to do it-I was just bored and had nothing else to do). I may had to resharpen it a couple of times but this product has met beyond my expectation.

5Better than I expected
By W. Kennedy
I am happy with my purchase. The knife is sharp enough to shave with. I have a bald spot on my arm to prove it.The grip is probably rough for some people, but if you expect to use the knife in inclement conditions it either means soft, easily worn, sticky rubber areas or an aggressive pattern. I prefer an aggressive pattern. The blade is spring loaded enough to keep it from opening on its own, but not to the point where it is uncomfortable to thumb open.It is as ambidextrous as possible; I can open and close it with either hand by itself, and my left is pretty sad as far as dexterity goes.I haven't had it long, but it feels extremely solid and there is no lateral play in the joint between blade and handle. If I need to take it apart it is bolted together, not glued or welded, so all I should need for a thorough cleaning is a set of TORX wrenches.
