3Good Concept - But not designed for the Long Haul...
By PellaCPC
I am a residential contractor that purchased this gun for general framing tasks. The thing that swayed my purchase was 1st, the lightness of this gun, and 2nd, the 5 year Hitachi warranty. I was glad to see that some attempt had been made to design a nailer with size and weight in mind. Unfortunately, this gun doesn't measure up to Hitachi's other nailers. Just like the other customer, the loading mechanism broke after about 2 weeks on the job. Amazon was very obliging, and replaced my nailer with another relatively quickly. That was about a month ago, and one of my guys just told me that the nailer is now bending all the 16s that come out of the gun. I guess I'll have to go back to the old 88 or the paslode. One other major mistake on the part of Hitachi is allowing the gun to "dry fire" which is to fire when out of nails. This is a major oversight by the manufacturer, especially when nailing sheeting. I really wanted this gun to work because it is one of the smallest, lightest, and most powerful available, however, I'm afraid that I can't recommend it.

3Good Gun:Bad Design
By J. Skinner
I purchased two of these new models based on the experience that I have had with the NR83aa2's. Keep in mind that I run a framing crew and we rely on these guns all day every day. The gun shoots excellent. However, there is a piece of metal that acts as a lever for the retaining clip. On both of my newly purchased NR90ad's this piece of metal broke within the first three weeks and three weeks later I am still waiting for the parts. Long story short, that one one particular part that was poorly designed has turned what would normally be a great gun into a worthless piece of metal until those parts come in. 2-15-2005

2great gun... when it works
By Chris Magness
Light, smaller design, powerful, and toenails well. The positive aspects of this gun are great, so great infact that after returning my first one, I purchased a second. The second, however, had the same issues as the first. The piston rattles and occasionally dislodges. When this occurs, absolutely nothing happens when I pull the trigger. Shaking the gun violently seems to realign the piston. This process is extemely aggrivating, especially when straining to hold a board in place. My first gun, I thought to be a lemon. After my second gun failed in the same way, it is clear that Hitachi has issues to address. From a carpenter's perspective, I cannot reccomend this gun. It's flawed and unreliable. Get on the ball Hitachi!

5Good workhorse grinder
By pdwilkersn
Bought this to grind paint off the stucco on my house. This is what they had a the rental yard so I figured it would hold up well. Used it 6 hours a day for 6 days. Is very powerful and did not overheat. The safety switch makes sure you won't accidentally turn it on while picking it up.

3Packaging is significantly INFERIOR for shipping.
By Lionheart
Like another reviewer, I had to go through 2 orders before getting a machine that wasn't broke. The first order, which comes by ground (free shipping route), delivered a saw that had a section of the base metal completely busted off from the rest of the frame. Specifically, a triangular section on the bottom which houses one of the angle stops. (Also, two of the tools were missing as well). After having to explain to Amazon that a "replacement part could not be ordered," they finally overnighted me a replacement. I did get a chance to use the first saw because I had wood to cut and I wasn't going to wait. And, I definitely was NOT impressed with the laser. I could hardly see it in broad daylight or in the shade. Nonetheless, I decided to give the replacement a benefit of the doubt--thinking that when the package got dropped, it did something to the laser as well. So, with a working saw now in my possession, I'm glad I stuck with it. Because the laser is bold, bright, straight and easily seen in the shade as well as broad daylight. My only complaint about the laser is there should be a vertical/angle adjustment of some sort available to the consumer. The only adjustment you can do to the laser (as per the instructions, anyway), refers to horizontal adjustment--left or right side of the blade. I would like the opportunity to adjust the laser from its position on its mount to the wood itself. I would find this very convenient. The miter digital readout is NOT accurate out of the box. It wasn't for my first saw or the second. It will have to be adjusted. However, other reviewers claim the opposite. The fences definitely need to be adjusted. They are not true to the blade. For 2X4's or smaller, you'll be fine right out of the box. That's the degree of adjustment we're talking about here. It's not much, but, it is noticeable for wider stock.Blade changing is a pain in the butt, to be candid. When it comes to saws, there are some things I don't want to spend time on. Changing blades is definitely one of them.Blade stop. Does it exist? If you're expecting a quick cease in blade rotation after your cut, this isn't the saw for you. Speaking of blade cessation, when you do release the trigger, the saw has an upward kick to it. I find this aggravating. But, I'm sure I'll become accustomed to this idiosyncracy after enough cuts. The digital readout for bevel cuts is actually the primary reason I bought this saw. And, as it stands, I'm definitely impressed with it. I also like the engineering on the power to the laser and digital meters--each is controlled by its own individual switch. What does this mean to you? You don't have to keep your laser on at all times.Base rotation and lock are quite smooth and dependable. No complaints whatsoever. The locking knob is plenty big--something I'm happy about.Conclusion. If you're getting this saw shipped to you, it's a 50/50 chance on whether or not the first one will come in one piece. That is how poor the packaging is. The worst I've seen with a tool--and I order many tools each year. The digital readouts for miter and bevel cuts are without a doubt a trend setter. They will definitely be mocked. {Now... it would be nice is someone invented a compound sliding 12" saw with the laser and the miter/bevel digi-readouts.} The laser is sharp and easily adjustable. The swing open extension fence is a bonus. Not supplying extension rods (from the saw's base) for the price we're paying, I think, is a non-impressive, cheap quality that most of these manufacturers emulate. Hitachi, for the most part, likes to be different. I was very surprised that it did not include the extensions with the saw.Hope this helps....Addendum #1. Just finished setting the new saw up. And guess what? The teeth on the blade are damaged! Make sure you check the entire blade over. On mine, I had one tooth missing and 3 that are ready to fall off--sounds like a dental problem. ;0 The fences were poorly aligned. That took about 15 minutes to remedy. How? There are two bolts securing each fence at the rear. Grab your wrench and turn each bolt ONE HALF TURN (is all that's needed). Take your straight edge and place it on the saw base--align both fences to this edge. Then lower your saw, lock it in place, pull up the guard and use a quick grip to lock that up and out of the way as well. Then, take your Square and align one side at a time. When placing the Square against the side of the blade, make certain it is only touch the face of the blade--NO TEETH. After squaring one side, repeat the procedure on the opposing side. Wrap it all up by making a wide cut--measure and validate.

4Nifty looking saw, but...
By Jeff Jones
I was excited about this saw. The features are ingenious and the reviews of Hitachi products are typically compelling. I seriously considered Delta's 12 Dual Laser, but the LCD readouts and the cool "geared" bevel adjustment won me over. The free 96 tooth blade was a nice incentive as well. Now the "but"... Hitachi's packaging needs upgrading. The saw is restrained by a couple of flimsy pieces of cardboard. The saw will probably survive shipping if it is not tipped on its side, but when the UPS guy arrived, it was clear that was not the case and naive to think it possible. the D-Handle was broken off and dangling by the wires, no weakness of the saw. I waited a little over a week and now have to wait another two weeks for a replacement and the posibility of similar shipping damage issues is not all that comforting.I never even got to run the saw, but I did plug it in and switched on the bevel indicator power (seperate switch along with a seperate laser switch which is not momnentary), it was very cool although I was unable to check the accuracy as I did not want to cut the packing tape. I do think this looks like a great tool and eventually I may even get to use it, UPS's rough handling and Hitachi's weak packaging notwithstanding!Update: I just received an email from Amazon notifying me that my problem has become their problem and they are over-nighting a new saw at no cost to me. I have been in service businesses all my life and these folks "get it"! it would be hard to not go to Amazon's site before even considering somewhere else. When someone treats me fairly, I am fiercely loyal. Thank you Amazon!Update: digital displays are great and fine adjustment on the bevel is quite helpful. The saw is accurate and well thought out. I like the laser and it's easy to adjust should you change to a different kerf thickness. I also like the laser being seperately switched eliminating running the saw to see the laser, much safer. I looked at a lot of saws and I am comfortable with my choice, both the saw and Amazon.

5Top notch and ultra easy to use miter saw
By Eric Pruss
I have owned numerous Hitachi products in the past and have never had any that I was not 100% happy with... Only one other power tool manufacturer, Bosch, has instilled that sense of superior quality with me. The C12LCH saw is definately a tool that I can honestly say has lived up to the standards I expect of Hitachi. While I bought my saw from a local source (for the same price as Amazon), I wanted to give my feedback as I consider it the best of the 12" Compound miter saws, with the combination of the two best features in the laser and LCD readout.Upong first opening the package, I found no problems with the saw and all the parts were in perfect condition, but, as I said, it was picked up at a local store, and can easily see how things could shift aeound if the saw was not handled in an upright fashion and/thrown about by UPS personnel (Only an airport baggage handler could abuse packages more!). Upon removing the saw from the box and placing on my workbench, I immediately took out a combination square and checked the blade and laser for alignment... Spot on!However, the tilt LCD reading was off 22 degrees, but an insert in the manual showed how to adjust that correctly... Merely tilt the saw fully and then back to the 0 degree mark and press the tilt reset button and it's set. Couldn't be easier! The geared tilt mechanism coupled with the LCD display makes it a breeze to set the tilt angle perfectly, which can be quite iffy with most other compound miter saws.As for the laser, one other reviewer was concerned that there was no way to align it should it go out of alignment... Not so. In fact, on the side of the saw body is a label that clearly states the procedure for adjusting the laser should it go out of alignment. Perhaps his is missing this label though. As for the included blade. It appears to be of above average quality and I see no reason to replace it, which is what I tend to do with most included saw blades except those with Bosch tools. It cuts very smoothly and without any visible tear out.About the only thing I am a little disapointed with is the hold down clamp. I would have preferred one with a racheting motion rather than a screw mechanism, but that is a minor complaint.Overall, I can very highly recommend this saw though I too caution anyone considering purchasing it about the flimsy packaging. I gave it 5 stars as the product itself deserves such, and I do not let the packaging and abusive shipping company employeer affect my rating. If I could rate the packaging separately from the actual product, it would get it only 1 star.

4I like this fan!
By Matt O.K.
This fan is great! Looks exactly like it does in the picture. Works great; install instructions were easy to follow. Only con is that when you pull on the pullchains, you tilt the fan somewhat since the pull chains are on the side of the light kit housing. Everything else is great.

5Nice Fan
By debmcd123
We've had this fan for several month and have no problems at all. I like it because it is close to the ceiling and being white it does not stand out in the room. It's well balanced and quiet. It's not the highest quality fan in our house, but it is a good solid fan with no problems. It's over four years since I wrote that review and the fan still works, silent, and no wobble. Hugs ceiling and is not particularly noticeable. We keep it on almost all the time. Great bedroom fan.

5Bushnell Velocity Speed Gun,Gray
By Michael Delano
Recently i purchased a Bushnell Velocity Speed Gun to test out it's accuracy. I have been in law enforcement since 1985 & i am certified in the use of radar.I read several reviews from customers on how they were dissatisfied beacause their radar gun did not work properly for one reason or another. My partners patrol car has a MPH radar & i decided to see just how accurate a Bushnell hand radar compared with it.I have 2 different speed tuning forks to test my MPH with & tested both of them on the Bushnell as well. The Bushnell tested accurate & gave the correct reading on both tuning forks i tested with.i then took it on the road & compared it against my partners MPH radar system against oncoming traffic & it worked as well matching vehicle speed with my MPH as well.Although i used it on traffic,it should work on any moving object such as baseball, softball, tennis balls etc.Just remember that these objects are of course much smaller than a vehicle & you must be in direct line of sight to the object to get a true & accurate reading of speed.I would reccomend this particular unit to anyone interested in purchasing one. 5Great Product For The Price!!!
By Harrison Smith
I am 100% happy with my Bushnell radar gun. I mainly bought it for use in motor sports, four wheeler racing, motorcycles, and various activities involving speed. It uses K band so that is a big improvement from X band. The range on this thing is totally unreal, I can catch someones speed from over a 1/4 mile away, pretty amazing. Bottom line, for this price it is an unbeatable buy compared to the $900 stalker guns. I love this thing!!

2Struggles with smaller objects
By Ohio Baseball
I bought this to measure two things basically: tennis and baseball velocity. After testing the gun at first just on some cars, I was excited because it was extremely accurate. However, once I went to measure baseball pitching velocity and tennis, it was consistently 15-20 mph slow. The baseball pitcher was throwing in the mid to upper 80s, and has been verified by a JUGS gun, and he was topping out on this gun at 73. I wanted this to work so badly because it is a great price, but I believe I will have to return it because it has not been accurate for me on what I wanted it for.

5Great fan
By Care2 Lynn
I really love this fan. I've put it in all my bedrooms. It's beautiful and low profile, and it circulates the air well. Great price. You CAN outfit it with compact fluorescents. Nuvision makes a soft white, candelabra base bulb specifically for this kind of fan, and it's bulb style, so you can have a traditional look while still using cfls.

Great price, easy to install. Quiet and does the job. Has five blades and takes the smaller light bulbs, so have some of those on hand.I mean, super easy to install and I did it solo without any skill at all installing electrical ... things... instructions were actually very helpfull and not like those at IKEA!Has a nice clearance so above my bed not a problem. SUPER quiet! It also helps to use one of those decorative installation plates for between ceilng and fan base. Stabilizes it and helps reduce noise even more. They cost like $6 at Home Depot.

5Very Pleased with the Fans
By K. Patel
Yes, I mean Fans, I bought 6 of these fans from Amazon over a period of a month and very happy with all of them. We installed all the fans our selves, of course the first one took sometime, but the rest went pretty quick and the installation was not that bad.Pros: Quiet fan, doesn't wobble, Classy looking esp the Brushed Nickel finish, Warm weather/cold weather settingsFew things that could be better: some of the things in the box could have been assembled and ready to use, the light side of the reversible blade is a bit too light, hard to match things with it, the dark side only comes in rosewood, few more darker color options will be nice to haveI would recommend this fan to anyone who is looking for a fan on low price end and quality stuff.

5Great Fans - Wish I had more rooms to put them in
By Randy Erickson
So far I have purchased and hung seven (7) of these fans, replacing every ceiling fan in the house. Not only are they stylish and virtually silent and perfectly balanced, customer service from Westinghouse was fantastic. With the fans being shipped from Westinghouse to Amazon then to UPS and to my house, only one globe came broken out of a total of 21 of them. I called Westinghouse directly and was treated very nicely. A replacement globe was sent out and arrived in less than a week. I have no complaints with this fan or Westinghouse. If you're looking for a brushed nickel and rosewood fan, you'll be very happy with these fans. Their quick hang design had each one up in about 15-30 minutes including assembly time. You can't go wrong with these.

4Better than I thought it would be...
By KM
After looking at Lowes, I was angry that I could only find candelabra lights on their ceiling fans. I figured I'd order one online, but eventually found out some MORON passed a law a few years back saying ceiling fans can ONLY have candelabra lights!!! WHY? THat is just stupid! So I ordered some candelabra conversion fixtures to aid me in my quest for better lighting, and ordered this fan, knowing I could fix the problem. We got it installed last weekend, and it turned out MUCH better than I thought it would be. I'm flooded with light, and did not feel the need to replace the bulbs, or use the conversion fixtures. I still think it's criminal for some bureaucrat to tell me what I can and can not use for my own lights in my own home, but this is not automatically going to need more light. I'm using it in a bedroom, and it's plenty of light in there. Not sure it would do in a kitchen, but my husband liked it so much he made me go out and buy him a fan for his office, too.You can gripe about the candelabra lights (and I agree), but since you can't get anything else in a ceiling fan anymore, you might as well accept it, and get the conversion sockets if you need more light. (Search "Candelabra to Medium Socket Enlarger" on Amazon. $2. each) I'd wait til it's installed, first, though, as it puts out quite a bit of light as is, and you may not need the converters. As to the fan itself, I love it. Still too cool here in NH to use it yet, but it looks good, quietly moves the air in testing, and was easily enough installed. It does provide a hook to make holding it easier while you connect the wires, with the only hard part being getting it to connect on both sides to the screws, when you push it up to the ceiling. It's heavy, and unwieldy, and you can't see both sides at once, so it is helpful to have someone help with that last bit, but otherwise, easy peasy. : )INSTALL NOTE: I strongly urge you to tape a cover over the top motor housing holes while installing it. My husband dropped the tiny screws several times while wrestling it into position, and we had to take it off to shake out the screws and washers every time, until he finally listened, and put a paper cover on the holes to stop the screw from falling in. You won't regret it, as the screws are VERY tiny, and easy to drop. Not so easy to shake out, though.

5World Class Binoculars - worth the extra money!
By funbear
....I will highlight much of what I like about these binoculars, and some of the shortcomings. If some of what I write is not clear, please read my review of the Canon 10x42L binoculars, as it is a detailed explanation of binocular selection in general, and some of the terms I am using below. As many know, Steiner is a world class Binocular maker from Germany. They provide many militaries with binoculars, so they know optics well. Probably only Ziess and Leica have a stronger reputation, but they represent the zenith of pricing also. The packaging of this product was the nicest I have ever seen. The box was very professional, the storage pouch was well made, and the binocs come with a 30 year lmtd. warranty. Here is what I like about 7x50 binocs in general, then, I will comment on the specifics of these Steiners...1) Very hand-holdable if you have relatively steady hands. 7x magnification IMO is the highest magnification you can acheive with relatively steady images. After 7x, for the average person, I would reccomend IS (Image Stabilization system) or Tripod / Monopod, unless you have a high tolerance for shaking images. The weight is only 30 oz. (just under 2 lbs) without the compass.2) 7mm exit pupil Diam. Although during daylight hours, much of this exit pupil is wasted, so the binocs appear no brighter than the 10x42's. However, when the light level becomes low, the difference in apparent brightness is HUGE. (assuming your eye pupils can dilate open wide enough to benefit from this, see chart above) This is also called the twilight factor. However, even during daytime use, these large exit pupils do not got to waste, as they provide tremendous "ease" of viewing as the circle of light bathing your small eye pupil allows you more "eye placement leeway" AND, it also allows your eyes to swivel inside this large exit pupil diam., which is a very natural feeling. With the Canon 10x42's, you must keep your eyes centered, and move the binocs to keep the subject of interest in the center of the image circle, to avoid the annoying black-out condition, caused by the exit pupil from the eye lens missing your eye pupil opening. This is a VERY underestimated value of large exit pupil binocs. (again, exit pupil is objective diam., / magnification, so 50/7 = 7mm.) This issue is somewhat age related. If you want to understand this further, read my explanation of exit pupil diameter under my Amazon review of the Canon 10x42L binocs. If you are an older person, and your eye pupils do not dilate past 4mm, then you are wasting a lot of exit pupil diameter and can probably use the smaller Steiner 7x30's and get equal results in a lighter, and smaller binoc.3) Astronomy use - 7x50's see a wide field of view. For astronomy use, the large exit pupil of the 7x50's is immediately apparent with producing very bright stars, and the ability to hand-hold, WITHOUT so much shake. With too much shake, the stars would appear like bouncing specs of lights. The difference between 7x and 10x is huge when hand holding. At 8x, I still find it hard to handhold for astronomy. Hence the value of 7x. It's best to "try" these variables out with the proposed binocs in your hands, because not only does everyone have different "hand stillness", we also have different tolerance levels for shaky images.4) Eye Relief. Most 7x50 binocs have longer ER, which maybe very desirable for those who wear corrective eyeglasses. Those with astigmatisms would benefit greatly by using their corrective eyeglasses when using binocs. As most binocs with diopter correction can correct for refractive differences between the eyes, but no visual optics can compensate for astigmatism, except your custom made corrective eyeglasses. Of course, if you wear contacts, you eliminate these problems. These Binocs are very eyeglass friendly. Now, specifics about the Steiner Commander V which I like.....1) Image quality is superb. I would rank them as high as the Canon 10x42L's which is about the sharpest binocs I have ever seen. Steiners web site boasts HD technology (High Definition) utilized in the design.... I have no reason to doubt their buzzword, as the image is super sharp with NO distortion. They also boast a 96% light throughput, which I have no way of testing, but have no reason to doubt their claim. Distortion is practically non existent.2) Eye cups are superb, they are perfectly designed to rid side light. If you wear your glasses, you can fold the side part of the cups back.3) Focus is done by each individually. Normally a nuisance, but Steiner has included a set of scales, so you can set the binocs at infinity focus, then lift and set the marker, for easy return to infinity setting after you had focussed close, or someone else used the binocs and changed focus. Brilliant feature.4) Rugged build. Steiner knows how to build rugged binocs, these are no exception. Nice rubber feel, great in cold or hot weather, as they the surface temp does not vary greatly.5) Lens caps are very use friendly....the snap into place, and can be easily removed, but yet remain captive on the binocs, making them easy to reinsert. The eye lens caps are the best I have ever seen design. They fit snug, regardless of the last IPD setting. They attach to the neck strap for easy return. You must flap over the side lips on the eye cups to use the caps.6) Focus has very fine adjust. Provides leeway for good focus.7) Excellent collimation - Steiner has had years of experience to perfect good collimation. It is part of the reason you pay more for their quality. To learn more about how to test for collimation and its effects, read my Canon 10x42L review.8) Matched fl's. Steiner seemed to pay a lot of attention to assuring the fl's of each optical train, for each eye, are matched in magnification... .this is another very high-end feature which is often not a concern in lower priced binocs, sometimes creating mis matched magnification in each eye, creating a condition called retinal rivalry, i.e. the brain is battling two different sized images, which creates mental stress. Often these subtle differences create eye strain as well. If the problem is extreme, you can see this in the blink test as explained in the Canon 10x42 review. I will have to assume Steiners QC is too good to allow shortcomings such as this.8) From the Steiner web site... some other great features.... Guaranteed shock-resistant and absolutely mil spec waterproof (tested to a submersion depth of 5 meters). The rubber armoring offers a good grip, protects the binocular and prevents slipping on wet surfaces. The optional flotation strap will keep the Commander V safely afloat. The nitrogen pressure system completely eliminates inner fogging from - 40 °C to + 80 °C. And the intelligent prism suspension with a carriage made of special silicon will keep your vision completely aligned. Some things I don't like, or would like to see improved....1) AFOV - Steinder does not list the AFOV. If I had to guess, I would suspect about 50 degrees. I would not call this a shortcoming because I have never seen any wide angle binocs with wider AFOV. But if you like big image circles for that WOW effect, you will notice a big difference between these Steiners and the Canon 10x42L's 65 deg AFOV. Canon clearly advertises this, and they should.2) Focus - Steiner did a nice job with the dual focus arrangement.... however, I still prefer a center focus that focuses both sides, used in conjunction with a Diopter adjust for one eye. This allows for fast focusing on the fly. Of course, if you remain focused at infinity most of the time, this is not an issue.3) Slight edge softness, but only at the very extreme edges, so not a huge deal, but slightly noticeable if you have sharp vision. Well, can't find too many shortcomings, these binocs are that well made....Bottom line.... if I had to choose ONE pair of binocs for hand-holding, it would be a toss up between the Canon 10x42's and these Steiner Commander V's. It comes down to the application.... for daylight use only, the Canons win for their larger AFOV (assuming you can afford the extra $ and can handle the weight), for mixed use (bright day and twilight) the 7x50's Steiners would win by a hair, and if it was for mid day and / or twilight use, combined with star gazing, the 7x50's would SURELY win. Binocs are highly personalized visual instruments. It's important to understand the variables so you can choose the right binocular size first, i.e. magnification and objective size, then choose the quality of the binocs. within this size. The old adage, Horses for Courses, certainly applies in binoc selection :-)Hope this helps with your buying decision....
