Product Description
Built to handle any saltwater fishing scene, the Thunnus (Latin for ''tuna''), provides exceptional strength and smoothness and added durability with its aluminum body and rotor. The construction design keeps the gears aligned for worry-free, long-lasting performance. The most distinctive feature of the Thunnus is it's patented baitrunner feature that acts as a secondary drag system. This feature allows an angler to feed out line in a tension-controlled free-spool with the bail closed allowing for a more easy setting of the hook and proves to be one of the best systems to fish live bait. Other features of the Thunnus include a waterproof drag system to keep out saltwater and debris; precision cut gears to provide a smooth and powerful retrieve; a one way roller bearing to provide zero handle back-play and a ball bearing line roller coated with titanium for increased smoothness and reduced line twist.

Great Value, The fish do not have a chance
By SFG
I purchased this unit in November 2004. It had a tough year as I use this reel to surf fish in South Carolina. I use it with 30 pound test fireline. I always use the baitrunner feature. This is simply the best surf reel on the market. (I did own a Van Staal for a few months, and traded it in for the Thunnus.)With this reel, I landed a 4 foot shark and a 6 foot manta ray on the beach. The drag held togther. The reel gets plenty of splashes from the surf, it holds up well.Towards the end of the season, it was completely summerged in the sandy surf water and the gears started to grind. For the low price of $24, Shimano serviced it. It is like brand new!My one complaint - I need a lot more line. These large fish will take the hook and run. Even with the very small diameter of the fireline, the 6000 is a bit small. I now plan to use the 6000 as my backup reel, and I purchased a Thunnus 12000 for my primary. It holds about 550 yards of 30 pound fireline!Bottom line - a great reel that is backed by a great company. The service is wonderful and reasonably priced. The drag and strength of this reel will enable you to bring in the monsters of the sea! (Just be careful to understand your line requirements)Copyright 2005, SFG
