Product Description

Giant sized dogs were predominantly selected based on morphologies, focusing on hypertrophy of a specific characteristic. Their long growth (18-24 months) must be monitored very closely to prevent any malformation in the skeleton and muscles. Giant breeds mature over an extended time period, from 18 to 24 months. This growth pattern and the resulting giant skeletal frame can impose enormous stress on the dogs joints. Supplemental Chondroitin and glucosamine may help to support healthy joint function and improve mobility in the largest of the breeds. Giant breed dogs are hearty eaters and sometimes gulp their food. A special kibble shape and size encourages the dog to chew and significantly increases the intake time. Chewing also increases a brushing effect and may improve oral health. Unfortunately, giant breed dogs have relatively shorter life spans and the effects of aging are visible at an earlier stage than with smaller breeds. Free radicals can lead to cellular degeneration. A complex of antioxidant vitamins C, E and taurine may help to slow this process. (the aging process) The prevalence of cardiac disease is 3.7 times higher in giant breed dogs (4-7 years of age) than among other breeds of the same age. Supplemental taurine and antioxidants like vitamins E & C combined with L-carnitine may help to support heart health. Available in 35 lbs.

5Vet Recommended, healthy weight, no teeth problems
By echo delta
We feed our 140 lbs. dog with 3..4 cups of this kibble, twice a day (supplemented with some 'normal' food in small amounts). Our vet recommended it and our dog seems to enjoy it and it's though it's hard to know what is going on in his joints and cells, he looks as healthy as ever since we switched to this food; has predictably regular movements, etc. The kibbles are huge - like charcoal briquetes- but the dog seems to like it; occasionally he will pick one of the bowl and carry it away to chew on it like a treat. The bag is big and heavy fortunately we have Amazon Prime to cover the shipping. So far we shopped this from petco but they are discontinuing the item as it doesn't seem to sell enough.

5Outstanding Giant Breed Food
By Donald M Durham
We tried all the various tricks to slow down one of our Shiloh Shepherds. The doughnut shaped bowl, the big metal ball in the dish, but settled on this one. a) because it's a simple solution and b) because our guys really like it. The kibble is huge maybe 1.5" on a side. Too big to inhale. It forces them to slow down and eat each piece individually.I'm unlikely to ever try another brand for my two.

5Great for Giant Breeds!
By Kathleen Asher
We love this dog food, although in our area it's hard to find and it's cheaper to order online. We have two St Bernards, and this large chunk dog food forces them to 'chew' instead of swallow. We tried other smaller foods, but our dogs inhale it and we were afraid they were going to bloat. I will always feed them Royal Canin Giant Breed.
