Behringer makes them, loves them, and sells truckloads of them! But there is a place for passive studio monitors, too.Significant applications for passive monitors include surround-sound theater, stereo systems, computer workstations, etc. Or, maybe you have a stack of high-quality power amps just sitting around collecting dust. Behringer TRUTH B2031P passive studio monitors are a quantum leap from those bookshelf box speakers you may currently be using. Built on the Behringer Legacy Behringer TRUTH B2031P monitor has all the great features of the TRUTH B2031A active monitor with one exception; you provide the amplification. Due to their high-resolution performance, B2031P two-way reference studio monitors are perfect for nearfield monitoring applications: from small mixing environments to multi-channel surround setups. 4Good sound, pretty decent for the price

I recently had an old pair of Event 20/20s go out on me after 10+ years of use. I was a little disappointed in the lack of selection when it came to passive monitors. Almost every monitor these days has built-in amplification. That's great if you're building a new studio, but if you had a pair of passives that need to be replaced the money spent on a separate amp is wasted unless you get another pair of passives. Enter the Behringers. Behringer has a stigma associated with its name of being a fairly generic economically priced line of equipment. In some respects it's a well deserved assessment. I've used a number of their products in the past, as music recording is a hobby of mine and I can't justify spending often 2x or more the price for some of the high end gear that's out there. So, without any reviews on this product I took a gamble and bought a pair.Out of the box they're impressive. They're not cheaply made, and the weight of them confirms they're well-designed, at least from the outside. Construction looks and feels solid. I'm powering them with a Halfler amp which pumps out 150 watts a channel RMS. Having used the Event 20/20's for over a decade, I was bracing myself for a drastic difference in sound quality, but was pleasantly surprised. They're certainly not an Event 20/0 equivalent, but they're also not worthy of the bad word of mouth and upturned noses people love to give this brand. As with the Event 20/20's I've got the amp they're wired into routed through a dedicated sub which houses an electronic high-pass crossover set to around 100Hz. The sound is clear and fairly uncolored. The low end is neither boomy nor overbearing, nor is it timid sounding either. It's dialed in right about where it should be in my opinion. The mids and highs are all reproduced faithfully. This is based both on memory of the way the material sounded on the old 20/20's as well as doing an A/B through a good set of headphones. In summary, if you're on a budget and have a dedicated amp already and are searching for a pair of monitors that will give you good bang for the buck, a pair of these should more than meet your needs.
