Superior quality
By Robert
I have never owned an LCD monitor until I purchased this product. After hooking it up and turning it on, my first impression was "WOW!" I just can't believe how great everything looks with this monitor! I have always been satisfied with the image quality of my old CRT, but if I had known how much better an LCD monitor could be, I would've bought one years ago! Rest assured, this monitor is far superior to ALL LCD's I've seen in use (including the more expensive models), and especially laptop displays. Unlike most other LCD's (particularly laptops), the VP912b is easily viewable at pretty much ANY angle without any degradation of image quality or color. If you plan on using an LCD monitor for games or movies, there are two things you want to check: response time and brightness! With its 12ms response time, the VP912b is one of, if not THE, fastest monitors available today. You WILL need this speed if you intend to display fast-moving images and want superior quality with no ghosting. At 400 nit brightness, this is one of the brightest monitors on the market. You can pay through the nose to get a brighter monitor, but it is NOT necessary. With the brightness setting turned all the way up, this monitor would probably illuminate your front yard if you have it next to your window. I turned the brightness setting WAY down (to about 1/4 of the maximum), and it is still much brighter than my old CRT. I doubt I will ever need to adjust it, but it is nice to know that it can get MUCH brighter IF I ever needed it.As other reviewers have mentioned, I too love to play FPS games, and after reading so many articles about "ghosting" and other LCD problems, I was hopeful, but not convinced, that this monitor would not have these issues. As it turns out, I was right! There is NO GHOSTING whatsoever in ANY game or DVD I've played on my computer with this monitor! Not only that, I still cannot believe how GREAT my games look! Games such as Doom 3, Half Life 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, and The Matrix Online, all look SO much better on this monitor, which says a lot considering that those games already looked great on my CRT. This monitor has actually inspired me to play these games more often.Since this monitor's native resolution is 1280x1024 (far higher than I previously used), I was concerned that my games would run poorly at this resolution, or that the image quality would suffer if I lowered the resolution. Thankfully, NEITHER are true! I run everything at the native resolution and my games perform just as well as they did at lower resolutions. Incidentally, I am using the DVI input, not the analog, in case that makes a difference (I have no plans on trying the analog connection to see for myself). With all this positive feedback, I would like to point out a tiny problem - the monitor I received has two stuck pixels; View Sonic will not replace the monitor unless you have at least seven, and even then they cannot guarantee that the replacement monitor will be 100% perfect. However, we're talking about two extremely small dots (literally the size of the tip of a needle) out of almost 4 million pixels. So while I was somewhat disappointed that the monitor I received was not 100% perfect, it actually took me a few days before I noticed the problem, so it really is not a major issue. But, this issue is not specific to View Sonic; to my knowledge no LCD manufacturer will guarantee zero dead/stuck pixels.Bottom line: this is an AWESOME monitor at a great price!

YOWSERS...worth every penny!!!
By Eduardo Nietzsche
It took a long time for me to overcome my reluctance about spending over five hundred dollars for a monitor when my whole Dell PC cost about the same, but now that I have it I couldn't be any happier. This Viewsonic is bright and sharp, text very clear, contrast is excellent but gentle on the eyes, photos are vibrant yet detailed.Best of all, it pivots ninety degrees...allowing me to view entire Web and document pages without having to scroll. Mama mia, this feature is simply PRICELESS! Especially for someone like me who works with text docs, spreadsheets and web pages all the time. It makes me chuckle when I recall the days (just a couple of years ago) when I would've had to shell out well over twelve hundred dollars to get some massive vertical CRT tube to have that capability.Setup was quick and painless out of the box, though I did have to manually install the monitor drivers---probably a quirk of Windows XP, but the instructions the installer wizard provided were excellent so that was a snap. The Pivot Point software which flips the display image was even easier to install, took all of about 3 minutes. And look, Ma---no dead pixels either! Probably because of the nice beefy packaging it came in...I noticed during my shopping that the cheaper makes often come in smaller boxes for the same screen size.Even though this monitor is listed as having only 250 cd/m brightness, one of the first things I did when I installed it was REDUCE the brightness setting, from the default 90% down to just over 30%! Strangely enough, when I was testing out different monitors in stores which also were rated for 250 cd/m (Samsung, Acer, NEC, Sony, Envision, Provision, etc.) the Viewsonic (and it was the lower end VX-910 model) had by far the brightest picture. Which to me suggests that a lot of LCD manfufacturers must be fudging their numbers big time!I guess what people say about Viewsonics is pretty much dead on: these are beautiful monitors, very easy to use, and they easily blow away higher priced competitors like Sony.

Great Gaming Monitor
By M. Allshouse
The days when you needed a big, power sucking CRT monitor for gaming are over. With a 12 ms response time, the Viewsonic VP912b provides a great gaming monitor with no ghosting or trailing. I play FarCry, one of the most graphically demanding games around, with this monitor and I can't tell the difference in the picture quality on the Viewsonic and my old Dell CRT. Not only that, but switching to the VP912b lowered my power bill and the temperature of my office. This is a terrific monitor. Get one!
