It's Tamya and they set the standard
By William A. Hensler
This reviewer puts together a lot of model ships and aircraft. I'll say this bluntly: if it's not Tamiya then it may be junk.Tamiya kits are made for the Japanese markets. The Japanese do not have the time or patience to convert an old poor kit to a fair kit with after market additions. So, Tamiya does it correctly. This kit is a joy to behold. The parts come in spuces that have their own seperate bag to protect them from scratching or being broke. The instruction book is written in Japanese and English. The Tamiya people actually employee people who are good at translations. That means the instructions are well written and easy to follow. As with other Tamiya ships, like the equally excellent 1/350 German Battleship Bismarck and the 1/350 US Battleship BB-62 New Jersey, this kit just falls together. You'll want to break down the superstructures and paint them seperate. Also, double check the "pom-pom" anti-aircraft gun colors. If you follow the instructions you'll end up with a fantastic model. And what I really like about Tamiya is the price on this model is about the same as a destroyer. Now, I don't know about you but getting a battleship for the price of a destroyer is like buying an ice cream cone and getting a gallon instead. This model builds fantastic and you get a great value for the money. Next, don't ignore the rigging instructions. A model with out rigging looks like a toy. A model with rigging looks like a small ship and almost everybody will admire your good work. This model is the one time I would surf onto Goldmetal products and get their aftermarket photo-etch products for the KGV. Why? There is one annoying thing on this kit and that's the aircraft cranes. I didn't take a star off because it's only fairly after 2000 that molding small cranes became easier and this model dates from the mid-1980s. But if you don't want to spend the money then this kit still makes a fine model. This is a most excellent model and will make a happy build for any hobbiest who has a few kits done.Enjoy!P.S. There are a lot of people who would love this for a present. Hint, hint, hint! :) They will appreciate the fact you gave them one of the best model ships on the market. And since the cost is reasonable it makes the joy of giving all that much better.

It's a Tamiya

Tamiya models spoil me. No other model company can compare to Tamiya. Plastic is not teh thin stuff and it comes with full hull. Try one. You'll never go back to other models other than the Trumpeter. Only problem is the prices cointinue to got up and some are out of sight.
